Everybody
officially came to life after co-founders Sam Rypinski and Lake Sharp first met in a business class at the Feminist Center for Creative Work in Fall 2015, where they realized they shared more than just a non-traditional approach to business based on intersectional feminist principles.
Sam had already been developing the business model for EVERYBODY as an antidote to the oppressive gym culture that also provided the healthy perks of his regular workout routine. Exercising regularly at big-box gyms helped him stay grounded in his body for decades, both before and after transitioning, and he envisioned a space where there wasn’t a toxic trade-off to the many benefits of working out.
Lake had a background in the fitness industry but had grown tired of the pervasively sexist and elitist atmosphere of boutique gym culture and its exclusive, monocultural clientele. When they bonded over being end-of-life caretakers of parents with dementia and mental illness, they officially laid the ground for what would become EVERYBODY, a project born of genuine desire to create brave spaces for all bodies to strengthen, heal and support people through every season of life.
